Thermal Burns
OHIP-covered adjunct HBOT for serious thermal burns — accelerating healing and reducing the zone of secondary injury.
Thermal Burns
Understanding Thermal Burns
Thermal burns cause both direct tissue destruction (zone of coagulation) and surrounding hypoxic tissue damage (zone of stasis) that may progress to necrosis without intervention. HBOT is an OHIP-covered adjunct that helps preserve at-risk tissue and accelerate healing.
Signs & Symptoms:
- Second- and third-degree burns covering significant body surface area
- Burns with inhalation injury
- Slow or stalled healing of burn wounds
- Burn site infection
- Poor preparation for skin grafting
Why Modern Medical
Your Thermal Burns Treatment Team
Tissue Preservation
HBOT delivers oxygen to ischemic tissue at risk, preserving viable cells and reducing the extent of tissue loss following injury or surgery.
Surgical Support
HBOT is used pre- and post-operatively to optimize tissue oxygen levels, improving graft take rates and accelerating wound healing.
State-of-the-Art Facility
Treatments are delivered in our new 7,000 ft² facility with Perry Sigma monoplace chambers, big-screen entertainment, and a dedicated sound system.
The Science
How HBOT Treats Thermal Burns
HBOT reduces post-burn edema, restores oxygen to ischemic tissue at the zone of stasis (preventing it from converting to necrosis), enhances leukocyte function for infection control, and accelerates collagen deposition. Burns treated with adjunct HBOT show reduced need for skin grafting.
Thermal Burns is one of 14 OHIP-approved indications for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Treatment at Modern Medical is fully covered — no upfront costs to patients with a physician referral.
