OHIP Coverage
Already Covered by OHIP
If your condition is one of the 14 OHIP-approved indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, your treatment is fully covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. There are no upfront costs, no insurance paperwork, and no out-of-pocket expenses.
Your physician can refer you directly to Modern Medical. We handle all OHIP billing — you simply show up for your sessions.
Private Insurance
Check Your Extended Health Benefits
Many Canadians have extended health benefits through their employer or a private plan that may cover physician-prescribed HBOT. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so it’s worth checking.
Check Your Plan
Look for “hyperbaric oxygen therapy,” “paramedical services,” or “physician-prescribed treatments” in your benefits booklet or online portal. If you’re unsure, call your insurance provider directly.
Get a Referral
Ask your physician to provide a referral letter indicating the medical necessity of HBOT for your condition. This is typically required for insurance pre-authorization.
Contact Us
Call Modern Medical at (807) 235-0071. Our team can provide treatment plans, cost estimates, and any documentation your insurer requests to process your claim.
Start Treatment
Once coverage is confirmed, we’ll schedule your sessions. If your plan requires pre-authorization, we’ll help coordinate with your provider before you begin.
Questions to Ask
What to Ask Your Insurance Provider
When you call your insurance company, here are the key questions to ask about HBOT coverage.
Does my plan cover hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)?
Do I need pre-authorization before starting treatment?
What is my annual coverage limit for medical treatments?
Is there a per-session or per-treatment limit?
Can I use my Health Spending Account (HSA) for HBOT?
What documentation do you need from the clinic?
Workplace Injuries
Injured at Work? WSIB May Cover Your Treatment
If your injury occurred at work, your HBOT treatment may be eligible for coverage through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Modern Medical has experience working with WSIB claims and can help coordinate the documentation process.
All 14 OHIP-approved indications are also eligible for WSIB coverage when the injury is work-related. Visit our dedicated WSIB page for full details on eligibility, the approval process, and how we can help.
Visit our WSIB Coverage page for detailed information about workplace injury HBOT coverage, documentation requirements, and how to start your claim.
