Crush Injury & Compartment Syndrome

OHIP-covered HBOT for crush injuries, compartment syndrome, and acute traumatic ischemias — limiting tissue loss and supporting recovery.

Understanding Crush Injury & Compartment Syndrome

Crush injuries and compartment syndrome result in severe ischemia (loss of blood flow) to muscles and other tissues. Without timely intervention, ischemic tissue progresses to irreversible necrosis. HBOT is an OHIP-covered adjunct that reduces edema, preserves ischemic tissue at risk, and supports recovery.

Signs & Symptoms:

How HBOT Treats Crush Injury & Compartment Syndrome

HBOT delivers oxygen to ischemic tissue beyond the zone of obvious injury, rescuing cells in the ‘penumbra’ — the region at risk of death without intervention. It reduces post-ischemia reperfusion injury, decreases edema, and enhances healing after fasciotomy.

Crush Injury & Compartment Syndrome is one of 14 OHIP-approved indications for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Treatment at Modern Medical is fully covered — no upfront costs to patients with a physician referral.
